UV Surface Primer
Sunrez 1022 UV Surface Primer and bond coat is a urethane acrylate blend which has been specially formulated for UV cure. It initially has the same blue hue as the LED light during the curing process but changes to a fluorescent orange after it has fully cured. This patent pending trait gives the operator a visual indicator that the primer has been given the proper amount of UV light to be fully cured.
It has excellent adhesion to a wide range of substrates including epoxy and polyester composites, aluminum, steel, and many compound plastics like PVC and ABS.
What Is Sunrez 1022 UV Primer?
Sunrez 1022 UV Surface Primer is a urethane acrylate blend formulated to cure under UV light. Sunrez 1022 is engineered to work with UV-cured prepreg systems, where light rather than a measured catalyst drives the cure. Applied as the first layer against the substrate, Sunrez 1022 establishes the bond between that substrate and the UV prepreg laminate built on top of it.
Why Choose Sunrez 1022 UV Primer?
Sunrez 1022 UV Primer has a built-in cure indicator that removes guesswork from UV processing. During curing the primer shows the same blue hue as the LED light, then changes to a fluorescent orange once it has fully cured.
This patent pending feature gives the operator a clear visual confirmation that the primer has received the proper amount of UV light. Sunrez 1022 also adheres to a wide range of substrates including epoxy and polyester composites, aluminum, steel, and many compound plastics such as PVC and ABS, making it a flexible bond coat across mixed-material projects.
What Are the Best Applications for Sunrez 1022 UV Primer?
Sunrez 1022 UV Primer is designed for use as the bond coat beneath UV-cured prepregs on composite, metal, or plastic substrates. Its broad adhesion makes it suitable for projects that combine substrates, for example bonding a UV prepreg repair to an existing epoxy or polyester composite, or to an aluminum or steel surface that has been properly prepared.
How Should Sunrez 1022 UV Primer Be Used for Best Results?
Sunrez 1022 UV Primer is applied to a clean, surface-prepped substrate at a depth of 3 to 15 mils. Most substrates reach maximum adhesion when the primer and the prepregs are cured at the same time, so plan to cure them together where possible. On steel specifically, a 60 second precure of the primer before applying the UV prepregs is recommended. Watch for the color change from blue to fluorescent orange to confirm a complete cure.
