Target Strength in Two Directions, Mid to Lighter Weight
Saertex® 600 GSM Stitched Biax Overview
This Saertex® 600 g/m² (17.75 oz/yd²) 50" wide, stitched biaxial cloth is designed to add strength in two directions for finished composite parts. Equal-sized bundles of fiberglass are stitched at +/- 45 degrees using high-strength polyester, with stabilization fibers throughout.
Fibers are not crimped and fabric lays smooth, promoting maximum strength properties.
This fabric is ideal for wet lay-up and infusion, and can be used with epoxy, polyester, and vinyl ester resin systems. It is thicker, however, and not suitable for small details.
The Saertex brand ensures top quality in this category. In addition, the Fibre Glast First Quality commitment means you can expect the same finish, sizing, and handling characteristics every time you order.
Why Choose Stitched Biaxial Over Woven Fiberglass?
Stitched fiberglass fabrics are ideally suited for selective reinforcement. Fiberglass is bundled and stitched together, rather than woven. In woven fabrics, the frequent over/under crossing of threads reduces the theoretical strength of the fibers because they are not perfectly straight. As a result, these reinforcements offer optimized directional strength for finished composite parts.
The 600 GSM sits at the lighter end of the Saertex stitched biaxial range, which also includes the 830 g/m2 (#2850), 806 g/m2 (#2905), and 989 g/m2 (#2902). This makes the #2906 a good choice when strength in two directions is needed without the bulk of the heavier biaxial options. For this reason, stitched fiberglass fabrics are popular in the wind energy industry.
What Are the Best Applications for Saertex 600 GSM Stitched Biax?
Unlike chopped strand mat, which contains a binder that prevents use with epoxy, stitched fiberglass fabrics are compatible with all resin systems, giving fabricators full flexibility in resin selection.
How Should Saertex 600 GSM Stitched Biax Be Used for Best Results?
The vacuum infusion process offers a better fiber-to-resin ratio than hand lay-up or vacuum bagging, and stitched fabrics are specifically designed for fast wet-out in infusion applications.
Available as cut-to-length yardage (#2906, min 10 yd), 1-yard roll (#2906-A), 3-yard roll (#2906-B), and 5-yard roll (#2906-C).
