Saertex® 440 GSM Stitched Triax Overview
This Saertex® 440 g/m² (13 oz/yd²) 12" wide, stitched triaxial cloth is designed to add high strength in all directions for finished composite parts. High-strength polyester is used to stitch bundles of fiberglass at +/- 45 degrees, with larger bundles at zero degrees.
Fibers are not crimped and fabric lays smooth, promoting maximum strength properties.
This fabric is ideal for wet lay-up and infusion, and can be used with epoxy, polyester, and vinyl ester resin systems. It is thicker, however, and not suitable for small details.
The Saertex brand ensures top quality in this category. In addition, the Fibre Glast First Quality commitment means you can expect the same finish, sizing, and handling characteristics every time you order
Why Choose Stitched Triaxial Over Biaxial?
While biaxial fabrics provide strength in two directions (+/- 45 degrees), the triaxial construction adds larger bundles at zero degrees, providing strength in all three directions within a single layer. This eliminates the need to stack separate plies at different orientations to achieve multi-directional strength.
Stitched fiberglass fabrics are bundled and stitched together, rather than woven, so there is no crimp in the yarn. As a result, these reinforcements offer optimized directional strength for finished composite parts. For this reason, stitched fiberglass fabrics are popular in the wind energy industry.
The 12" width of the #2907 makes it well suited for targeted reinforcement applications where the full 50" width of the larger stitched fabrics would be excessive. This narrow format is ideal for reinforcing specific structural areas or adding strength along defined load paths.
How Should Saertex 440 GSM Stitched Triax Be Used for Best Results?
The vacuum infusion process offers a better fiber-to-resin ratio than hand lay-up or vacuum bagging, and stitched fabrics are specifically designed for fast wet-out in infusion applications.
Available as cut-to-length yardage (#2907, min 10 yd), 1-yard roll (#2907-A), 3-yard roll (#2907-B), and 5-yard roll (#2907-C).
