No-Crimp Fibers for Strength in One Direction

Saertex® 1200 GSM UD Overview

1200 g/m² (34.86 oz/yd²), 50" Wide, Stitched Unidirectional

This Saertex unidirectional cloth is primarily designed to add strength in one direction for finished composite parts. Reinforced polyester threads are used to stitch large bundles of fiberglass at zero degrees, and small bundles at 90 degrees.

Fibers are not crimped and fabric lays smooth, promoting strength properties.

Unidirectional fabric is ideal for wet lay-up and infusion which require fast wet-out and strength control.

It can be used with epoxy, polyester, and vinyl ester resin systems.

The Saertex brand ensures top quality in this category. In addition, the Fibre Glast First Quality commitment means you can expect the same finish, sizing, and handling characteristics every time you order.

Why Choose Stitched Unidirectional Fabric?

Unidirectional reinforcements concentrate the majority of fibers in a single direction, delivering maximum strength along a defined load path. The small bundles at 90 degrees provide just enough cross-directional stability to hold the fabric together during handling and layup without significantly adding to the cross-directional strength or weight.

Stitched fiberglass fabrics are bundled and stitched together, rather than woven, so there is no crimp in the yarn. As a result, these reinforcements offer optimized directional strength for finished composite parts.

The 1200 GSM is the heaviest unidirectional option in the Fibre Glast stitched lineup, providing maximum fiber content per layer for rapid build-up of directional strength. For this reason, stitched fiberglass fabrics are popular in the wind energy industry, where unidirectional reinforcement is commonly used in spar caps and other load-bearing structures.

What Are the Best Applications for Saertex 1200 GSM UD?

Applications include spar caps, stringers, and other structural elements where the primary load direction is known.

How Should Saertex 1200 GSM UD Be Used for Best Results?

Align the zero-degree fibers along the primary load path of the part. The vacuum infusion process offers a better fiber-to-resin ratio than hand lay-up or vacuum bagging, and stitched fabrics are specifically designed for fast wet-out in infusion applications.
