Color Gel Coat
Our Color Gel Coats are mixed to perfectly match the color of your choice. In addition to our RAL colors, we have 720 more colors of Gel Coat available when you call in.
Color Gel Coat is designed to be used in mold to produce UV resistant, blister resistant, high-quality parts when laying up polyester or vinyl ester parts. They can be used in repair applications with an air inhibitor such as Duratec High Gloss Additive.
Color Gel Coats are available in quart, gallon or five-gallon sizes. Gel Coat kits are available in quart, gallon and 4-gallon cases and come with (#69) MEKP catalyst. One gallon of gel coat will cover approximately 40-80 square feet, depending upon application.
What Is RAL 7012 Basalt Grey Color Gel Coat?
RAL 7012 Basalt Grey Color Gel Coat delivers the RAL 7012 Basalt Grey standard in a polyester gel coat formulated for composite mold work. Gel coat is the outermost layer of a polyester or vinyl ester part, applied to the mold first so it becomes the visible, durable surface face of the finished part. The Basalt Grey color is carried in the material itself from the start.
Why Choose RAL 7012 Basalt Grey Color Gel Coat?
Basalt Grey has a subtle bluish cast that gives it a cool, mineral quality reminiscent of volcanic basalt rock. On architectural composite panels and exterior cladding, that mineral tone gives finished parts a refined, geological character distinct from warmer or more neutral greys. Fibre Glast matches it precisely to the RAL 7012 standard, so the color is consistent and repeatable across production runs. For physical color confirmation before ordering, the #4008-A RAL Color Book has printed swatches of all 188 RAL colors.
What Are the Best Applications for RAL 7012 Basalt Grey Color Gel Coat?
Architectural composite panels, exterior cladding, and parts where a cool, mineral-toned dark grey finish adds a refined character to the surface. It can also be used for open-air repairs when combined with Duratec Hi-Gloss Additive.
How Should RAL 7012 Basalt Grey Color Gel Coat Be Used for Best Results?
To use RAL 7012 Basalt Grey Color Gel Coat, catalyze at 1.5% to 2.5% with #69 MEKP and spray onto a properly prepared mold. Four to five coats of about 5 mils each, with 15 to 20 minutes of dry time between coats, builds the recommended 20 to 25 mil total thickness. Use the #122-A Gel Coat Thickness Gauge to track film build. If the material needs thinning for the spray gun, #70 Styrene Thinner or Duratec #1039/#1040 are both compatible. One gallon covers approximately 40 to 80 square feet. Color Gel Coat is made to order and all sales are final.
