General Purpose resin for hand lay-up or spray-up applications
What Is #78 General Purpose Laminating Resin?
#78 General Purpose Laminating Resin is a polyester laminating resin for hand lay-up and spray-up, designed for part fabrication and building low-cost molds. #78 General Purpose Laminating Resin delivers robust processing and outstanding physical properties, and as a first quality resin its color, consistency, and properties will not vary from batch to batch. It is formulated for low HAPS, which suits operations with emissions requirements.
Why Choose #78 General Purpose Laminating Resin?
The defining trait of #78 General Purpose Laminating Resin is that it is wax free, so there is no need to sand between coats when laminating multiple layers. That same wax-free chemistry means air must be inhibited during the cure cycle for repairs and for single or thin layer applications: without inhibiting air, the resin may not fully cure and can remain tacky. For thick or multiple-layer applications, the heat generated during the exotherm allows the resin to cure fully on its own.
What Are the Best Applications for #78 General Purpose Laminating Resin?
#78 General Purpose Laminating Resin is well suited to general part fabrication, hand lay-up and spray-up laminating, and building low-cost molds. It is the economical, everyday polyester laminating resin. For higher strength and chemical or service-temperature demands, #90 Isophthalic Polyester Resin is the step up.
How Should #78 General Purpose Laminating Resin Be Used for Best Results?
#78 General Purpose Laminating Resin is catalyzed at 1.25% MEKP and applied by hand lay-up or spray-up. For repairs and single or thin coats, inhibit air by adding #71 Styrene Wax to the resin or spraying the applied resin with a coat of #13 PVA so it cures tack free. For thick or multi-layer layups, the exotherm cures the resin fully without an air inhibitor.
