Carbon Fiber Tapes

Details

Wrap for Strength, Make Easy Carbon Repairs

Carbon fiber tape is ideal for selective reinforcement of carbon fiber fabrications, sleeve winding, lap joining, and repairs of cracks on graphite surfaces. Just like their wider carbon fabric counterparts, these standard modulus tapes offer higher ultimate tensile strength and stiffness-to-weight ratios than any other commonly available reinforcements.

Carbon fabric tapes are referred to as tapes only for their width and appearance—they are not adhesive backed. Their unfinished edges offer easier handling and a clean, finished appearance. They are ideal for use in auto racing, aerospace, competition marine, and light industrial applications.

Carbon Fiber Tape Features

  • Unfinished edges are not prone to fraying and allow nearly seamless overlaying.
  • Plain weave for uniform stength in both directions
  • Wets out quickly and easily
  • Fatigue resistance for durable strength

Carbon Fiber Tape Tips

  • To maximize the fiber properties, use with epoxy or vinyl ester resins.
  • Great for strengthening parts
  • Polyester resin is also suitable, and is primarily used in cosmetic applications where higher strength-to-weight ratios are not a factor.

What Is 3K Plain Weave Carbon Fiber Tape?

Carbon Fiber Tapes from Fibre Glast are narrow-width plain weave carbon fiber reinforcements ideal for selective reinforcement of carbon fiber fabrications, sleeve winding, lap joining, and repairs of cracks on graphite surfaces.

These standard modulus tapes feature 3K carbon tow woven in a plain weave pattern, delivering the same higher ultimate tensile strength and stiffness-to-weight ratios as their wider carbon fabric counterparts.

The tapes are referred to as tapes only for their width and appearance — they are not adhesive-backed. Their unfinished edges are not prone to fraying and allow nearly seamless overlaying, offering easier handling and a clean, finished appearance.

Why Choose Carbon Fiber Tape Over Full-Width Fabric?

Carbon fiber tapes provide targeted reinforcement without the waste of cutting narrow strips from full-width fabric.

The unfinished edges are not prone to fraying and allow nearly seamless overlaying, making them ideal for wrapping applications, localized repairs, and reinforcing specific areas of a composite part.

Available in 2-inch (#692), 3-inch (#693), 4-inch (#694), and 6-inch (#696) widths, fabricators can select the width that best matches their application without trimming.

What Are the Best Applications for Carbon Fiber Tape?

Carbon fiber tapes are ideal for use in auto racing, aerospace, competition marine, and light industrial applications.

Common uses include selective reinforcement of existing carbon fiber parts, sleeve winding over mandrels or cylinders, lap joining of carbon fiber panels or sections, and repairs of cracks on graphite surfaces.

The plain weave construction delivers uniform strength in both directions, and the tapes wet out quickly and easily during fabrication.

How Should Carbon Fiber Tape Be Used for Best Results?

To maximize the fiber properties, use with epoxy or vinyl ester resins. Polyester resin is also suitable and is primarily used in cosmetic applications where higher strength-to-weight ratios are not a factor.

Quantity discounts per roll are available when four or more rolls of any one tape are purchased in one order. Discounts continue to deepen as the number of rolls purchased increases.

Fibre Glast is committed to ensuring that every roll of fabric is First Quality and manufactured to the highest standards, delivering consistent properties and handling characteristics every time you order.

Shipping

All prepackaged rolls of Carbon Fiber Tape, when ordered alone, will typically ship in a small box. Where possible, we will combine ordered items to reduce the number of boxes shipped.

Sizes

All available widths of tape are sold ONLY as prepackaged rolls of either 10 yards (as designated with the letter "A" following the part number, #692-A, for example) or 50 yards (as designated with the letter "B"). Quantity discounts per roll are available when four or more rolls of any one tape are purchased in one order. Discounts continue to deepen as the number of rolls purchased in any one order increases.
