Urethane Casting Resin - Shore A

Create Flexible, Tear-Resistant Parts and Molds

Pour tough, flexible parts and molds with Urethane Casting Resin Shore A. Available in two hardness variations, 40 Shore A and 60 Shore A. These urethane casting resins make it easy to create softer more resilient parts and tooling. These urethane casting resins have been designed specifically for the pouring of prototype and production parts. They can also be used to create fast flexible molds with some undercut or negative draft. While silicone can be used to create more flexible and lower cost molds, Urethane offers superior tear strength and offer 3-4 times the mold life. Shore A resins can accept pigments to achieve opaque colors in finished castings. These Urethanes are used in many common mainstream products, but are especially popular in automotive applications.

When mixed thoroughly, pour the urethane slowly to aid the release of any air bubbles. When using Urethane Casting Resin Shore A kits, avoid water and all types of moisture contamination. Do not use any urethane kit with PVA Release Film, and do not mix with wooden mixing sticks or in paper mixing containers. #2333 Plastic Paint Stirrers for Urethanes are recommended. To ensure a proper release from a mold, use at least four layers of #4121 Non-Silicone High Temp Paste Wax.

Urethane Casting Resins with Shore A hardness can completely cure at room temperature, but can also be heat cured up to 150°F for faster production rates.

What Is Shore A Urethane Casting Resin?

Shore A Urethane Casting Resin is a two-part urethane for pouring tough, flexible parts and molds, available in two hardness options: 40 Shore A (#3340) and 60 Shore A (#3360). These urethanes are designed for prototype and production parts and flexible tooling, and they can also make fast flexible molds with undercuts or negative draft.

Why Choose Shore A Urethane Casting Resin?

Where silicone can make flexible, lower-cost molds, Shore A Urethane offers superior tear strength and 3 to 4 times the mold life, which is the main reason to choose it for flexible tooling. The two hardnesses let you tune flexibility: 40 Shore A is softer, 60 Shore A is firmer. Shore A resins accept pigments for opaque colors in finished castings and are popular in automotive applications. For rigid castings, the 75 Shore D #3475 or 60 Shore D #3460 are the right choice instead.

What Are the Best Applications for Shore A Urethane Casting Resin?

Shore A Urethane Casting Resin is designed for flexible prototype and production parts and for flexible molds with undercuts or negative draft that need long mold life and high tear strength. Choose 40 Shore A for softer parts and 60 Shore A for firmer ones.

How Should Shore A Urethane Casting Resin Be Used for Best Results?

Shore A Urethane Casting Resin is mixed thoroughly and poured slowly to release air bubbles. Avoid water and all moisture contamination, and do not use PVA Release Film, wooden stir sticks, or paper containers. Use #2333 Plastic Paint Stirrers and release with at least four layers of #4121 Non-Silicone High Temp Paste Wax. These urethanes cure fully at room temperature or can be heat cured up to 150 degrees F for faster production. The 40 Shore A mixes 100:75 by weight with about 25 minutes of working time on a 4 fl oz mass at 77 degrees F. The 60 Shore A mixes 100:55 by weight with about 15 minutes of working time.
