Give Parts a Golden Finish
What Is Gold Glitterflake Gel Coat?
Gold Glitterflake is a metallic flake additive blended into clear gel coat to give a part a golden metallic finish. The flakes are 0.015 inch metallized polyester, commonly used to repair damaged bass boats or to make any project stand out. Gold Glitterflake is recommended for use with #180 Gel Coat, a clear marine gel coat with excellent weathering properties and high gloss.
Why Choose Gold Glitterflake?
The metallized polyester flake in Gold Glitterflake catches and reflects light through a clear gel coat, producing a deep metallic effect that pigment alone cannot achieve. Because the flake is suspended in clear gel coat and protected by a clear topcoat, the finish has both sparkle and long-term durability.
Gold Glitterflake is one of four colors in the line, alongside Silver (#879), Blue (#881), and Red (#882), so finishes can be matched or combined.
What Are the Best Applications for Gold Glitterflake?
Gold Glitterflake is suited to bass boat repair and custom metallic finishes on parts that need to stand out, applied within a clear gel coat system over a pigmented base. It is a strong choice for marine and decorative composite work where a gold metallic surface is the goal.
How Should Gold Glitterflake Be Used for Best Results?
Gold Glitterflake is mixed thoroughly into clear gel coat no more than one hour before applying. Add at 10% by weight, increasing up to 20% if desired. Adding more than 20% can cause curing problems including surface distortion or ripple.
For best results, build three layers: a pigmented gel coat base to conceal the reinforcement below, the Glitterflake blended with clear gel coat, and a protective clear gel coat topcoat to optimize the metallic appearance. The layer order reverses when working in a mold: clear gel coat first, then the Glitterflake layer, then pigmented gel coat, then reinforcement.

Every product Fibre Glast sells is First Quality Guaranteed, so you can add a metallic finish with confidence.
Get best results with Glitterflake by using it as one of three standard layers in lamination. For finished parts, these include:
- A layer of pigmented gel coat at its base, used to conceal layers of reinforcement below.
- The layer of Glitterflake blended with clear gel coat.
- Ultimately, a protective layer of clear gel coat at the part's surface to optimize the metallic appearance of the flakes.
(Keep in mind that the sequence of applying these layers will change based on application. For boat repair and use with a plug, layers are added in the order as noted above. When using Glitterflake in a mold, the order is opposite: first, add the clear gel coat. Follow with Glitterflake layer, pigmented gel coat, and all subsequent reinforcement).
