Details

Corrosion-Resistant, Sandable Surface Layer

This veil mat is a thin ply of continuous strand fibers that are looped randomly throughout the roll of the material. It is held together with a light binder and is the consistency of tissue paper—it is not intended for structural use. Graphite veils are frequently used in applications when corrosion resistant barriers are required.

The nonwoven construction allows a resin-rich surface that increases chemical stability and reduces the risk of micro-cracks forming in the composite surface. Carbon veils can also be used for grounding a composite structure, minimizing the build-up of static electricity that could prove dangerous when in contact with explosive liquids and gases..

Features

  • Provides a resin-rich surface barrier to protect composite part
  • Carbon Fiber Veil is compatible with polyester, vinyl ester, and epoxy resins.
  • Works well with sandwich cores
  • Minimizes print-through of heavier reinforcement cloth

Tips

  • Place it in a mold directly behind the surface coat to minimize the print-through of the heavier reinforcing cloths applied later. It will permit surface sanding of finished parts without compromising the reinforcing fabric below.
  • Use it with sandwich cores. Place veil mat directly over the core to optimize bond-line thickness. In this case, it's also effective at keeping excess resin from draining into cells of honeycomb cores when a vacuum is not being used.
  • Use for applications where corrosion-resistant barriers are required. The non-woven construction of the graphite veil allows a resin-rich surface that increases chemical stability and reduces the risk of micro-cracks forming in the composite surface.
  • Carbon veils can also be used for grounding a composite structure, minimizing the build-up of static electricity that could prove dangerous when in contact with explosive liquids and gases.

Sizes

Carbon Fiber Veil Veil is sold by the linear yard, either as a prepackaged quantity or by continuous yardage. Prepacks Veil is available in pre-cut lengths that measure one yard (#1064-A, roll), three yards (#1064-B, roll), and five yards (#1064-C, roll). Each is packaged and sold separately. For your convenience, these "prepacks" can be purchased in any combination. However, if the length for the veil totals 10 yards or more, we suggest you purchase it in continuous, "cut to length" yardage. Continuous, "Cut to Length" Yardage If you know in advance that you intend to purchase 10 yards or more of veil, it should be ordered in continuous, "cut to length" yardage. In this case, veil will be cut once according to the total yardage ordered, and customers receive a price-per-yard discount as compared to prepacks. Quantity discounts continue to deepen as the yardage increases for any one cut of veil.

Carbon Veil

I thought it would be hard to find Carbon Veil laminate material online. It was not . I like the Fiber Glast website and purchasing experience. As a hobbyist they are able to accommodate my relatively small quantity orders. They offer a full range of products and the ordering process ids automated. Shipping costs are fair and my orders get the same priority that a large quantity purchase would get. My orders are always packaged carefully. Fiber Glast is pretty much my go to resin and laminate company. If I can not find it there, it probably is not readily available

I build radio controlled airplanes and wanted to use your carbon veil as a finish. It is embedded in Nitrate Dope and finished with Buyterate after filling with Zinc Sterate. I was very pleased with the product, it was just what I was looking for.
