Polyester color gel coat is a type of gel coat that is specifically formulated with polyester resin and colorants to provide a pigmented and durable finish to composite materials. Here are some key features and applications of polyester color gel coat:
- Composition: Polyester color gel coat is primarily composed of polyester resin, which acts as the base material. It also contains pigments or colorants to achieve the desired color. Additional additives such as thickeners, accelerators, and fillers may be included to improve performance and application properties.
- Pigmentation: The colorants used in polyester color gel coats are liquid pigments that we add with calibrated specialized equipment. These pigments are specifically selected for their ability to withstand UV exposure and maintain color stability over time and are matched with the polyester gel coat base material.
- Application: Polyester color gel coat is applied to the surface of composite materials, such as fiberglass, using spray equipment, brushes, or rollers. It is typically applied as a layer on top of the substrate to provide a smooth, colored surface.
- Benefits: Polyester color gel coats offer several advantages. They provide a vibrant and consistent color finish, enhancing the aesthetic appeal of the composite parts. The gel coat layer also acts as a protective barrier, shielding the underlying composite material from UV radiation, moisture, and mechanical damage. Polyester gel coats are known for their excellent weather resistance, durability, and gloss retention.
- Industries and Applications: Polyester color gel coats are widely used in various industries and applications. They are commonly employed in the manufacturing and repair/refresh of fiberglass boats, automotive parts, recreational vehicles, bathroom fixtures, and other composite products. The 900+ color options we provide in low emission polyester gel coats allow for customization, design flexibility and a perfect match in repairs.
Overall, polyester color gel coats provide a visually appealing and protective finish to composite materials, offering color stability, durability, and resistance to environmental factors.
