Tear Apart and Reinforce Tough Spots
Mat Tape Overview
1.5 oz/sq ft mat, 4" Wide, 0.045" Thick
Chopped Strand Mat Tape is ideally suited to reinforce the seams, corners, or edges of larger parts made from chopped strand mat or other fiberglass fabrics.
Fabricators generally tear apart this tape, rather than cut it. This maintains the length of fibers along the torn edge, which create stronger bonds with subsequent layers.
- Quick wetting and rapid air release, which allows for maximum molding productivity and reduced cost.
- Excellent weight uniformity allows consistent part quality.
- Superb dry mat integrity enhances productivity and reduces material losses during cutting and piece handling.
Mat Tape is called tape only for its width and appearance. It is not adhesive backed. Like its fabric counterpart, it contains a binder that holds it together and prevents proper bonding with any epoxy resins. PLEASE NOTE: it is only compatible with polyester or vinyl ester resins.
For applications requiring a wider format, use Chopped Strand Mat in 38-inch (#250) and 50-inch (#1250) widths.
What is Mat Tape?
Mat Tape (#492) from Fibre Glast is a 1.5 oz/sq ft chopped strand mat tape, 4" wide and 0.045" thick, ideally suited to reinforce the seams, corners, or edges of larger parts made from chopped strand mat or other fiberglass fabrics.
Why Choose Mat Tape?
Mat Tape provides the same rapid-wetting, high-conformability characteristics of full-width chopped strand mat (#250/#1250) in a convenient 4-inch-wide tape format. This narrow width makes it ideal for targeted reinforcement at seams and joints where a full sheet of mat would be wasteful and difficult to position.
Fabricators generally tear apart this tape, rather than cut it. This maintains the length of fibers along the torn edge, which create stronger bonds with subsequent layers.
Chopped strand mat is most frequently used with polyester resin to quickly build thickness for parts and between layers of fabric for building molds. Mat can be used alone or in conjunction with fiberglass fabrics, or woven roving, in larger fabrications.
What Are the Best Applications for Mat Tape?
Reinforcing seams, corners, or edges of larger fiberglass parts. Building up joints where separate molded pieces meet. For applications requiring a wider format, use Chopped Strand Mat in 38" (#250) and 50" (#1250) widths.
How Should Mat Tape Be Used for Best Results?
Mat Tape is not adhesive backed. It contains a binder that holds it together and prevents proper bonding with any epoxy resins. ONLY compatible with polyester or vinyl ester resins. Tear apart rather than cut for stronger bonds at edges. Features quick wetting and rapid air release for maximum molding productivity and reduced cost, excellent weight uniformity for consistent part quality, and superb dry mat integrity for reduced material losses during cutting and piece handling.
Available in 10-yard roll (#492-C) and 86-yard roll (#492-D).

Great product, shipped really quick, good company I'll definitely order from here again.
The 4 inch chopped mat tape is convenient to use, especially in the sculpture I'm working on. It does have a tendency to shedfibers to a greater extent than the sheets, but that's a small price to pay for the ability to wrap tubular objects without the mess and delay cutting sections of mat while trying (and often failing) to keep the pieces even.. I'm quite pleased with it.
Great place to do business with, great communication, fast shipping.
The only tape we use.
