Excellent Strength and Surfacing for Precise Parts
Satin weave fabrics are frequently specified for aerospace and structural applications, and offer excellent strength and surfacing characteristics.
In the #543 and #2543, glass fibers are bundled and woven repeatedly to float over seven bundles, then under one. As a result, the fabric is flatter and more easily draped over the most complex shapes, especially when compared to plain weaves.
Features
- Satin weaves are flatter than other weaves and conform to shapes easily.
- Provides greater strength over standard plain weave fabrics, making it ideal for aerospace applications.
- Available in popular 38" and 50" widths.
- If requested, this fabric can be certified to meet the requirements of: AMS-C-9084 Type VIII-B (Class 1 and 2) AMS-3824A Style 7781, and ASTM D 4029-23 Style 7781, and BMS 9-3/Rev U/ Ty H3/CL 23.
Tips
- Although they conform well to shapes, satin weaves can be more easily distorted than other weaves.
- Each side of this fabric is either largely fill or warp fibers, so opposite sides will look much different. To produce a symmetrical laminate, invert half the plies.
- Use with epoxy resin, polyester resin, or vinyl ester resin to produce composite parts of excellent strength, low weight, and great cosmetics.
- To maximize strength in parts, use with an epoxy, like our System #2000.

Why Choose Style 7781 E-Glass Over Plain Weave?
In a satin weave, one filling yarn floats over several other warp threads before being stitched under another warp fiber. Threads run straighter for much longer in this loosely woven type, maintaining the theoretical strengths of the fiber.
While satin weaves offer superior strength and conformability, plain weave fabrics are less pliable but hold together well when cut. The tradeoff with satin weaves is that once cut, they can unravel more easily because each thread is not held as tightly. The Style 7781 offers the right balance for demanding aerospace and structural applications where strength and drapeability take priority.
What Are the Best Applications for Style 7781 E-Glass?
The 8H satin weave conforms easily to complex shapes, making it ideal for parts with compound curves and detailed contours. Fiberglass fabrics continue to be the most commonly used reinforcement in the composites industry today, and the Style 7781 represents the high-performance end of the E-Glass range.
