2 oz Fiberglass Fabric
Details
Details
Particularly lightweight and thin, our #241 2-ounce Plain Weave Fiberglass is ideally suited as a surface layer for aerospace and marine applications. Use it to minimize print-through of heavier fabrics within a lamination, or as a sanding veil over other fabrics—it will cure as a transparent, protective barrier.
Like other plain weaves, it delivers uniform strength in both horizontal and vertical directions, with warp and fill yarns at 0 and 90 degrees, respectively.
Features
- Lightweight and bends around tight corners
- This fabric features high conformability and excellent finish
- Uniform horizontal and vertical strength
- Minimize print of laminate fabrics
- Cures transparent
- If requested, this fabric can be certified to meet the requirements of: AMS-3824 Style 1610 and ASTM D 4029-09 Style 1610.
Tips
- Orient this fabric so that yarns run parallel to expected loads.
- During lay-up, add layers at alternating 45-degree angles to maximize strength.
- Use with epoxy resin, polyester resin, or vinyl ester resin to produce composite parts of excellent strength, low weight, and great cosmetics.

Why Choose 2 oz Fiberglass Fabric?
The lighter the ounce-weight of the fabric, the easier it will be to drape over highly contoured surfaces. Lightweights also use less resin so the entire laminate remains lighter. The #241 is the lightest woven fiberglass fabric in the Fibre Glast lineup, making it the best choice when minimal weight addition and maximum conformability are priorities. Its ability to cure transparent makes it particularly valuable in applications where a smooth, cosmetically clean surface is essential.
As a sanding veil, the 2 oz fabric permits surface sanding of finished parts without cutting into the reinforcing fabric below. This thin outer layer protects the structural reinforcement underneath while providing a smooth surface for finishing. It can also be placed in a mold directly behind the surface coat to minimize the print-through of the heavier reinforcing cloths applied later, serving a similar function to dedicated surfacing veils but with the added benefit of woven fiber strength.
What Are the Best Applications for 2 oz Fiberglass Fabric?
Customer applications include strip-built kayak decks, where the lightweight material saves weight compared to heavier weaves while still providing robust protection.
How Should 2 oz Fiberglass Fabric Be Used for Best Results?
The 2 oz fabric is more delicate to work with than heavier weaves, so take care during handling and wet-out to avoid distorting the weave pattern. A rubber spatula or squeegee can be used in place of a standard plastic paddle for more controlled resin application on this lightweight fabric.
Available as cut-to-length yardage (#241, min 10 yd), 1-yard package (#241-F), 3-yard package (#241-A), and 5-yard package (#241-B).

Nice! This worked very well on the strip decking on my home built kayak. I used heavier weave on the hull and wanted to try out using this lightweight material on the decking in order to save weight. It was a little more delicate to work with than the heavier weave, but not too bad. I used a rubber spatula instead of the usual plastic paddle. I didn't have one bubble and it leveled out nicely.
I look forward to using your product on my latest project.
Using it on the inside of a wood kayak. Works great!
I ordered 12 yards of 2oz glass cloth and it was delivered ahead of schedule (or at least quicker than I thought it would). It came in fine shape, although the tape holding the box together was coming off, but it did not open. I'm guessing from looking at the tape, it had faulty adhesive.I plan on using fibreglast in the future.
